Many Posts have
certified Post Service Officers available to help you and your
dependents to obtain the VA benefits to which you are entitled. In
addition, full time American Legion Service Officers are stationed
at every VA Regional Office. Also, in Florida, almost every County
has a County Veteran Service Office (CVSO) to assist in
filing claims and obtaining other services offered by the VA.
Service Officers work
closely with the State Job Service Offices who have LVER (Local
Veterans Employment Representative) and DVOP (Disabled Veterans
Outreach Program) specialists to assist veterans with job placement
and rehabilitation training.
A program is set up to
aid a veteran family with dependent children in times of need. Any
veteran who is honorably discharged and meets the eligibility
requirements may request assistance for dependent children through
their local post. Grants are made for maintenance and medical.
Applications are originated by the local posts and forwarded to
Department Headquarters for final approval. More information is
available from local posts or Department Headquarters. Contact them
to request more details on the services offered in this section.
The National Emergency
Fund was set up to provide assistance to Legion families during
times of disaster. Applications are available from Department
Headquarters.
Local Posts may be able
to provide assistance in many different areas. Contact them to
request more details on the services offered in there
area.
